Ciao ABUSE

There are many types of abuse that have been rampant on this site. The easiest one to discover is the copier or plagiarizer. This is when someone takes hunks of text that they have not written themselves and paste it onto the site as if they wrote it themselves. This also includes when someone takes a page in a foreign language and translates it into English and then uses it here. If it isn't your own words that you typed up on your own, then you are not allowed to publish it here as if it was. And by the way, this includes padding your review with things like lists of product specifications or other facts (ingredients, cast lists, track names, and whatever) to up your word count so that your review can be considered a standard one instead of a quick one. While padding isn't as serious an offense now as it was when there was a posting bonus, it still is against the rules.

Another type of abuse is the clicking cartel which is often combined with spamming. This is when people add literally hundreds of people to their lists of friends and Circle of Trust with the promise that they'll rate their friends' reviews if these people rate their reviews in return. If we add one of these people to our friends list, we may get spammed with messages from them. We can also see this obviously when we notice a Ciao Wall plastered with spam messages about new reviews posted and declarations that they've rated someone's reviews. What is more, these clicking cartel members rate any and all reviews as Helpful, Very Helpful and Exceptional even if the review doesn't deserve a positive rating.

That brings me to the reviews in sub-standard English. Believe it or not, but posting a review in unintelligible English is no less abusive than copying or clicking cartels, and probably more damaging to the site than people know. This site is supported by sponsors who pay the owners money to advertise here. If they see that the quality of the reviews here are as appalling as many of them are, they will remove their funding and this site will go so fast our heads will spin. While I sympathize with foreign members here who want to "learn English", I'm afraid that this isn't the place to do it. Ciao is not the "Berlitz Charity Fund", and if you want to improve your English, you should go out and find a class or a teacher and pay THEM to teach you. Nowhere on earth has it ever been policy that the teacher pays the student, and Ciao shouldn't become a precedent for that.

You might be surprised to hear that self-promotion (meaning spamming people to come to a website, or writing something in a review which could encourage a member to go off this site in order to increase the writer's income at that site) is also not allowed here. Writing unlawful articles (defined as reviews "which break the law or offend against moral behavior"), nonsense (random words, symbols, letters or in a language other than English) or reviews that do not address the product or service of the category (meaning Off Topic reviews) are also abuse of this site.

There are also the vengeful ratings and abusive comments that we've found on our reviews, in our inboxes and on our Ciao Walls. These usually happen when a member is caught abusing the site and calls the abusing member on it. This type of behavior is also not allowed on this site.

But probably the most absurdly freaky of all the abuse we've seen on this site, is the holder of multiple accounts. There is someone out there opening account after account and posting from each of those accounts just one single copied movie review. Some of the movie categories have hundreds of the same copied reviews that look like they were posted by hundreds of different people. They're not - they're all one person. What this person thinks they're achieving with these thousands of accounts is beyond me. They cannot earn enough to get paid and yet, they persist. Go figure!

What Can We Do About It?

Unfortunately, Ciao doesn't have nearly enough manpower or hours in the day to police this site on its own. That's why Ciao needs you - the honest members here - to help them out. So the first thing you can do is to report all abuse when you see it. You can do this easily by going to the top right-hand side of any page on Ciao and there you'll find a link that is called "help". If you open that link in a new window, the page you'll get will have at the bottom of it a section called "Reporting Abuse". There you will find forms for most of the abuse I've noted above, and if the abuse doesn't fit into those categories, you can click on the form for "other misconduct". Fill out that form with all the information Ciao asks for and send it off. Do this as soon as you see someone doing something wrong here, and don't hesitate. The more people report abuse, the sooner Ciao can get these abusers off the site and clean it up.

For those of us who want to stop the spammers and clicking cartel members from bothering them, after you've reported them, summarily remove them from your friends list. As my "current status" says, friendship and trust must be earned - so don't go adding just anyone to your lists. When you do find an honest writer, go to one of their reviews and at the bottom there's a link you can click on to subscribe to their reviews. That way you never will need to know when someone you like has written a review. Then only read those reviews that are on subjects that interest you, and remember to rate these reviews fairly. If it is well written and gives you personal experience and opinion as well as facts about the item, rate it H, VH or even E. If not, don't be afraid to rate it SH, NH or even OT, if that's what it deserves. And if you're the only one rating like that, make sure you explain why you've done this.

Of course, if you're just realized that you yourself are doing one or more of these things I've described as abuse, the first thing you should do is cease and desist, immediately.

Is There Anything Else?

Actually, I think there is. I have suggested to Ciao that one thing I see lacking on this site (and the only thing I can think of that will stop our serial multiple account opener) is to make all new members rate 10 reviews before they're allowed to post their first one. If you think this is a good idea - or if you have another idea to help stop the abuse of this site - please write to ciao at info@ciao.com about this or with your suggestion. They might just take it on board and make this site a better place for everyone.

Together we can help Ciao be a better place, and not let the abuse here cause irreparable damage to this site which might cause it to lose good members or worse, close down altogether.

How To Manage Your Rented Refs in Neobux!

Note:
This information was taken from Neobux forum posted by Vittalev

Well...I have seen here in the forum many people complaining about the low average and low profits, so, following an advice that I receive from my friend jfxrsch in other topic, I will make this topic for those who want to share my strategy, and comment the results. Well, I have posted this topic here, because for me, this strategy is being a really success story, then I thought that if this works for me, maybe it can also works for others (I hope so).

First of all, this strategy was build for Golden members or even for Pioneers that are not Golden based on my own experience and a lot of reading on the forum, but for Standards I can not make any guarantee that it can work because I was never a Standard.

FOR PIONEERS
Recycling - Recycle the refs with an average between 1.8 and 1.89 and that have not clicked today or yesterday. - Recycle the refs with an average below 1.8 and that have not clicked today. (make this recycle in the end of the day) - Recycle the refs that have not clicked for 4 days or more. - Make the 3 points above DAILY.

After this, you probably will be thinking: "wtf? It will cost a lot, this guy is just crazy, I will not do it, never mind" Sure, it will cost a lot in the first days if you are not used to recycle daily, but with time the things start to stabilize.

What I don't understand are that people saying that they will not spend with recycling, because this way they will be just loosing money, but they don't realize that they will be loosing much more if they don't recycle.

I don't know about you, but I prefer to spend $3 (the max. I have ever recycled) recycling everyday and have an average of 2, instead of have an average of 1 without recycling.

Why did you choose average 1.8 to recycle?
Because any average under this, means that you are not making profit.

Autopay
 - If you use to pay your refs for +90 days, just let the Autopay off and get the 20% discount instead of 10% from Autopay. - If you use to pay your refs for +60 days, there will be no difference if you use Autopay or not. - If you use to pay your refs for +30 days, Autopay still is a good option.

About renewing the refs that you already have
For those who use to pay your refs for +30 days:
Another question very common to see is: "Should I pay my refs when they reach 19 days to keep them on autopay, or wait until the last day?" Well, in a short time, if you really need some extra money for something, then you can just let the days falling.

In a long term it's better for you if you pay your refs when they reach 19 days left, because this way they will have a total term of 49 days, which means your ref will have 30 days of Autopay. If we suppose that your ref clicks one day and the other not, in the end of this 30 days, he will have payed himself for another 15 days, which means that you will only have to pay for him again after 45 days (if we consider that you will pay for him again when he reaches 19 days left).

Now, if you let to pay him in the last day, when you pay, he will be with 30 days left. If you consider the same example above, about the ref that clicks one day and the other not, you will have to pay your ref again after 35 days(if you consider that you will only pay him again when he reaches the last day of his term). What I'm trying to say, is that if you pay your refs when they reach 19 days left, you will earn 10 days paying 10% less with Autopay, and with these little details you can maximize your earnings. I hope you understood what I wanted to say. I wrote this because I saw a lot of people saying to let to pay your refs in the last day, because this way you would be earning more. It really looks that you earn more, but they didn't make the math to prove it.

For those who use to pay your refs for +90 days:
- With no doubts it is the best option. - With this you can get a discount of 20% about the price of your refs. - You don't need to let autopay on. (In fact, you must turn autopay off if you use to pay your refs for +90 days, because this way you get the discount of 20%, and with autopay it is just 10%). - You don't need to renew your refs when they reach 19 days left once you will not need to keep them in Autopay. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- FOR GOLDENS (Beta Testing) I have made this second option because the first one is very agressive, and maybe you will spend too much using it. Anyway, if you are a Pioneer you must do it to have some profit, but for Goldens I think it's better to use this second option, specially if you have more than 500 refs. Of course if you are already using the first option and are feeling confortable with the amount of money that you are spending you can keep doing it without any problem.

Recycling
 - Recycle the refs that have not clicked for 4 days. - Make the step above DAILY. - Always renew your ref paying +90 days for them to get the 20% discount. - Turn Autopay OFF. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ For those who want to try this strategy, I would appreciate if you post here your results after 2 weeks of doing it. If you don't want to try it, you also don't need to come here and fire me saying that it will not work, unless if you give me a solid reason. I'm waiting for your results after 2 weeks. Thanks.
